Talking about the need for labiaplasty can be an uncomfortable conversation, but fact of the matter is that millions of women share this same concern, and it is a widely common procedure. Some women are born with prominent labia, other times it can be caused by age, menopause or other hormonal changes can thin the tissue of the labia majora, pregnancy and childbirth, as well as changes in your weight.

Benefits of Labiaplasty

If you are someone that dreads swimsuit season, or perhaps someone that feels embarrassed in front of their partner, one simple procedure may be able to change your life for the better and boost your self-confidence.

Here are some advantages that many women have experienced due to electing a labiaplasty procedure:

  • Increased confidence
  • Comfort in clothing
  • Increased sexual pleasure
  • Reduced pain and discomfort
  • Improved personal hygiene
  • And more!

How does Labiaplasty work?

Labiaplasty is a procedure that involves reshaping the labia minora, or inner vaginal lips, in order to reduce the size and appearance. Additionally, the outer part of the vaginal lips, known as the labia majora, can be reshaped or trimmed, though it is less common for patients to pursue.

Either excess tissue can be removed and dissolving sutures used to close the edges of the labia minora, or wedge-shaped portions of the labia minora can be trimmed on opposite sides and joined to reduce the outer labia. The result is smaller, significantly less pronounced inner labia and a more “tucked in” appearance.

Any existing genital tissue can be used to create labia during surgery as part of a gender-affirming procedure. This procedure can be done before or after other reconstructive procedures.
